Veteran actor Grace Shen recently starred in Korean director Seayoon Jong’s “Breaking the Silence,” a short film about how the Japanese military forced nearly half a million AAPI girls and women to be sex slaves for their soldiers. Intro: Dr. Who?
Grace Shen is a Los Angeles based actress, born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, BC. She has enjoyed work in film, TV and theatre. Grace’s most recent theatre credit is playing An Mei Hsu in the stage production of The Joy Luck Club at the Sierra Madre Playhouse directed by East West Players, emeritus artistic director Tim Dang. This production garnered her a nomination for the 2019 Broadway World Regional Awards, “Featured Actress in a Play”. She is in the multi-award winning short film Monday (Amazon) directed by Dinh Thai which won the 2017 HBO APA Visionaries Short Film Competition.
Currently, the short film Breaking the Silence directed by Seayoon Jeong is making the festival circuit with enthusiastic acceptance. Grace plays the lead role of Francesca Keahola, who is a surviving “comfort woman”. Thus far it has won 42 awards and 18 nominations. Grace has received multiple awards for Best Actress in Breaking the Silence. Other films on Amazon includes Love Shot and A Stone Cold Christmas. Grace can be seen in the film All About Nina (Netflix) directed by Eva Vives starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Common, which premiered at Tribeca in 2018. Some of her TV credit includes This Is Us, Grey’s Anatomy and The Young and the Restless. Grace plays the matriarch in the dramedy web series Three Chen Sisters, which can be seen on Twisted Mirror TV. Most of Grace’s work has been in the world of independent film where she has been fortunate to participate in many film festivals.
