Nancy Wang Yuen is a sociologist, documentary producer, pop culture geek, and widely recognized expert on race and ethnicity in media. Her book, Reel Inequality: Hollywood Actors and Racism examines the barriers African American, Asian American and Latinx actors face in Hollywood and how they creatively challenge stereotypes. Nancy pioneered the first policy reports on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in primetime television in 2006, and is currently conducting a 10-year followup study of the 2015-2016 television season, PRIME TIME: Asian Pacific Americans in Television. Nancy is also co-curating an exhibit on Hollywood’s pioneering Asian American actresses for the Japanese American National Museum. She has received grants from the National Science Foundation, CA Council for the Humanities and the LA County Arts Commission. Nancy is an associate professor at Biola University.
