Young AAPI leaders and organizers like Riya should give all of us hope about the future of America. She’s passionate about gender equality, the environment, and is already attuned to the necessary complexities of intersectionality. Riya is a high school student with a passion for gender equality and the environment. By working with organizations throughout New Jersey and the country, she’s been able to help make strides in the issues she’s passionate about. From directing teams to writing op-eds, she has developed several skills in non-profits, non-governmental organizations, activism, and social movements.
By being in the Institute of Math and Sciences, and the Institute of Citizen’s Empowerment at her school Riya is able to delve into her interests and pursue advanced studies in these areas that impact herself and her community. She’s started several initiatives that include Meatless Mondays and Voter Registration at her high school, and has also started the Women’s Leadership Institute and the Co-ed Fencing Team.
